Loring Launches Patient and Family Advisory Council
August 29, 2025
Have you ever been a patient or a visitor in a hospital and seen something you wish you could change?
If so, you may be a worthy candidate for Loring Hospital’s Patient and Family Advisory Council, or PFAC for short. PFAC members represent the typical healthcare consumer and their feedback has proven invaluable to Loring.
What does an advisor do?
The Patient and Family Advisory Council meets monthly for 1 hour and advisors should:
- Come with an open mind and a positive approach
- Be willing to voice opinions
- Be able to see many different points of view
- Have good listening skills
- Help find solutions
- Be able to share positive and negative experiences in a constructive way
- Be able to work with people whose backgrounds, experiences, and styles vary and may be different from their own
- Respect others’ opinions
- Show discretion and confidentiality
- Support Loring Hospital’s mission
Who can be an advisor?
Patients or family members who have received care at Loring Hospital, UnityPoint clinic, or specialty within the last five years.
Loring does expect someone on the PFAC to do the following five things:
- Voice: Bring patient and family perspectives to decisions.
- Partnership: Work together with staff to improve care.
- Guidance: Share feedback on policies and programs.
- Solutions: Help identify and fix barriers to care.
- Community: Build trust and connection with those we serve.
